										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Tempco</strong> has implemented an interesting new energy-saving application using <strong>custom <a href="https://en.tempco.it/solutions-en/heat-exchangers/dimple-jacket/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">immersion plate heat exchangers</a></strong> for a client in the <strong>parboiled rice production</strong> sector. Specifically, for this project, Tempco manufactured and supplied t<strong>wo arrays of custom immersion heat exchangers</strong>—each consisting of 20 plates measuring 2500 x 500 mm, made of <strong>AISI 316L stainless steel</strong> with a 100 mm plate spacing. This custom application is of significant interest to energy managers and technical specialists across various industries, as it is ideally suited for other <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/10896/precision-and-hygiene-in-stainless-steel-for-pharma-and-food-thermoregulation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>food and beverage</strong></a> production processes, as well as the <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/5453/dimple-plate-jacket-from-chemical-and-beyond/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>chemical</strong></a> and <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/8156/monofluid-thermoregulation-in-pharma-group-for-api-production/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>pharmaceutical</strong></a> sectors.</p>
<p>In this specific case, the <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/8796/energy-recovery-with-immersion-exchangers-in-industrial-laundries/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>immersion plate heat exchanger</strong></a> arrays have been installed in the <strong>equalization tank</strong>, which receives the <strong>wastewater generated by the parboiling process</strong>—consisting primarily of water used to soak the paddy rice. The purpose of the custom immersion plate heat exchanger is to <strong>recover heat from the wastewater</strong>, yielding a dual benefit: first, the recovered heat preheats well water circulating within the plates to the highest possible temperature, resulting in significant <strong>energy savings by reducing steam consumption</strong>. Second, the heat transfer process cools the wastewater before it is sent to the purification plant, providing a substantial advantage for the biological treatment processes taking place there.</p>

<p>The system was implemented as <strong>custom and in retrofit</strong>, utilizing existing structures within the client’s equalization tank. Specifically, the <strong>existing agitators</strong> were leveraged to maintain a fluid velocity of ≥0.1 m/s, generating turbulence that enhances heat transfer efficiency. Furthermore, the immersion heat exchanger arrays were installed by anchoring them to decommissioned aeration pipes (2.0 x 2.6 m).</p>
<p>Overall, the system will enable significant energy savings for the client, <strong>recovering approximately 174 kW of heat</strong> (150,000 kcal/h) and saving 1,500–1,700 tonnes of steam per year. Material selection for the heat exchanger plates was also critical; <strong>AISI 316L stainless steel</strong> was chosen to ensure <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/10552/revamping-and-corrosion-protection-of-cooling-radiators-in-marine-installation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>corrosion resistance</strong></a> (handling wastewater with a pH of 3.7–3.9 with no critical chloride levels). <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/9511/fouling-factor-each-type-of-exchanger-has-his-own/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Fouling</strong></a> caused by starches in the wastewater was accounted for using a conservative fouling factor (4E-4 m²K/W). Finally, given the intermittent nature of the wastewater flow—process wastewater is discharged every two hours, though a minimum volume is always maintained in the tank—performance was calculated at 70% of the theoretical maximum to determine the system&#8217;s ROI.</p>

<p>Among the different types of <a href="https://en.tempco.it/solutions-en/heat-exchangers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>heat exchangers</strong></a> included in Tempco portfolio of solutions, particularly suitable for new applications in the <strong><a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/9657/tempco-pche-exchangers-in-hydrogen-guide-2024/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hydrogen</a> industry for Green Energy</strong> are the FULL STAINLESS STEEL and <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/9559/pche-exchangers-for-hydrogen-with-tempco-and-microchannel-devices-at-hydrogen-expo/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>PCHE plate exchangers</strong></a>, printed circuit exchangers completely made in stainless steel suitable for hydrogen generation and fuel systems using <strong>PEM electrolysis</strong> or low conductivity <strong>deionized water</strong>.</p>

<p>An important and interesting application case study recently developed regadrs the <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/9340/from-water-to-energy-baglietto-unfolds-the-future-of-zero-emission-yachting/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>collaboration with Baglietto</strong></a> for the creation of the <strong>Bzero yacht</strong>, which opens the doors to <strong>zero-emission boating</strong>.</p>
<p>From water to energy, Tempco&#8217;s contribution to achieve this goal consists in the provision of <strong>on-board power electronics cooling systems</strong>. Thanks to an in-depth study of the case, we&#8217;ve been able to guarantee an efficient, compact and totally customized solution for the customer&#8217;s needs. 										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>New video on our <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@TempcoItalia" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Tempco Youtube account</strong></a>, showing one of our <a href="https://en.tempco.it/solutions-en/heat-exchangers/dimple-jacket/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>TCOIL plate heat exchangers</strong></a>. These are in fact the kind of plate heat exchangers for <strong>immersion applications</strong>, or also for installation as an <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/7144/dimple-jacket-exchangers-in-industrial-laundry-ironers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>external jacket on tanks or vessels</strong></a>, or to any kind of equipment that requires thermoregulation.</p>
<p>These heat exchangers are made of <strong>two metal sheets welded by spot welding</strong> (from which also comes the name <strong>Dimple jacket exchangers</strong>), and inflated using controlled pressure in order to create an internal chamber for the passage of the fluid that has to be cooled of heated, therefore absorbing of dissipating energy.</p>
<p>The TCOIL exchangers are the solution we use in all of the <strong>energy recovery applications</strong>, immersed in a tank or basin to absorb or dissipate thermal energy. We spoke recently about <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/9012/renewables-geothermal-heat-pumps-and-tcoil-exchangers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>geothermal energy</strong></a>: in fact, these are the exchangers we employ for tank immersion, or also in <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/8673/energy-saving-heat-pumps-and-immersion-heat-exchangers-on-the-como-lake/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>natural basins such as lakes</strong></a> or even for direct immersion in sea water, as heat exchangers directly immersed in a cooler or warmer fluid.</p>
<p>In fact, the TCOIL exchanger shown on the video is an <strong>electropolished</strong> one, a kind of finishing treatment very much employed in the <strong>pharma sector</strong>, as well as in the <strong>chemical industry</strong> and wherever an <strong>extremely polished surface is needed in order to reduce the adhesion</strong> of scaling or, in the case of immersion in sea water, of biological organisms such as algae or mussels.</p>

This is very clear looking at the amount and genres of new applications that <strong>Tempco</strong> has developed in the last few years in the field of renewables, a great number of different solutions rapidly and constantly increasing.</p>
<p>Due to the relevance of the subject, we’ve decided to dedicate the entire month of <strong>February to the theme of Renewable energy</strong>. 										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A recent application of <strong>energy recovery from waters employed in an industrial laundry</strong>, for a customer in Puglia, represents for Tempco a further demonstration of the actual flexibility and versatility of <a href="https://en.tempco.it/solutions-en/heat-exchangers/dimple-jacket/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>TCOIL immersion exchangers</strong></a>. In the past we’ve already developed an application thanks to the free shape design offered by these kind of <strong>dimple jacket heat exchangers</strong>, employed on <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/7144/dimple-jacket-exchangers-in-industrial-laundry-ironers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>mangano ironers in industrial automatic ironing</strong></a>.</p>
<p>This new application of TCOIL immersion exchangers in industrial laundries is the first of its kind that we supply, and this is in fact a very brilliant and innovative solution, giving the customer a <strong>huge advantage in terms of energy saving</strong>. The customer has indeed <strong>water available at the temperature of 45-50° C</strong>, that is conveyed into the exchanger, with feeding water at 12° C that can therefore be heated at 35-40° C. The <strong>gain is about 20-25° C</strong>, and the water heated thanks to the recovered thermal energy is further heated in a boiler at 45° C ready for a new working cycle. A <strong>power saving of about 2/3 of the required power</strong> is thus obtained, so that for example the customer has a consumption of only 300 kW instead of 1.000 kW.</p>

<p>This is a very smart application, with <strong>heat recovery and a strong energy saving</strong>, that becomes even more interesting these days due to the <strong>huge increase in gas and energy costs</strong>. The increase of energy prices is indeed reducing the payback of a similar solution, drastically <strong>shortening the return of investment for the customers</strong>, because if once it would have been calculated in 10 years, now it potentially decreases to only 3 years. With then <strong>a ROI very much more accessible</strong>, even because this kind of solution, with stainless steel construction, offers a very much longer working life.</p>
<p>Once again, another example of the change of paradigm similar to the switch from gas to electrical heating, that we were speaking about in our video on the <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/8737/rise-in-energy-prices-and-heating-switching-from-gas-to-electrification/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>electrification of heating in thermoregulating units</strong></a>.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Last year the number of <strong>investments in <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/7431/how-to-achieve-energy-saving-in-data-center-cooling/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">data center</a></strong> globally had a strong growth, with a number of transactions that reached 117 units in 2021, scoring an <strong>annual increase of 64%</strong>, and doubling the value of <strong>investments up to USD 59,9 billion</strong>. These are the results of a report by the <a href="https://www.dlapiper.com/en/uk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>DLA Piper</strong></a> International law firm, titled ‘<a href="https://www.dlapiper.com/it/italy/insights/publications/2022/06/rise-of-the-data-centre-global-data-centre-investment-outlook/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The meteoric rise of the data centre: key drivers behind the global demand</a>’. This extraordinary growth is expected to continue, as in the <strong>first half of 2022</strong> there have been already 41 transactions worth <strong>USD 21,3 billion</strong>, which doubles the USD 10,6 billion total of the same period in 2021.</p>
<p>Even more interesting on the perspective of <strong>Tempco</strong> is the growing focus that investors, debt providers and developers have on <strong>energy security and ESG issues related to data center</strong> infrastructures. The global growth of data centers is clearly driven by the increasing demand for <strong>cloud services</strong>, and by the rise of <strong>IoT and artificial intelligence</strong> applications, with also the incoming rollout of <strong>5G connectivity</strong> and the dawn of <strong>Metaverse</strong>. At the same time, the regulatory scrutiny and intervention in ESG have been increasing, with initiatives such as the <a href="https://www.climateneutraldatacentre.net/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact</strong></a> and metrics like <a href="https://www.climateneutraldatacentre.net/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>PUE</strong></a> (Power usage effectiveness) more and more weighing on requirements for data centers around the world.</p>

<p>In this context, almost all respondents (94%) said that scrutiny and <strong>diligence surrounding ESG issues increased</strong> when making data center investment and/or development decisions in the past 24 months, and 99% of them anticipate a further increase in the next 24 months. More than a third (35%) of developers/operators said that they <strong>divested at least one data center</strong> in the past two years due to <strong>concerns related to ESG</strong>. The survey also shows that <strong>net zero carbon emissions</strong> are firmly on the agenda for a majority of respondents, as 68% of equity investors and 60% each of both debt providers and developers/operators said that the data center in which they had most recently invested either has a <strong>target to achieve net zero emissions by 2030</strong> or it had already achieved this. Finally, energy and ESG factors are top drivers when it comes to generating a premium for data center investments: 70% of developers/operators and 75% of both debt providers and equity investors said they would be glad to <strong>pay a premium to invest in or finance a site with very good to excellent ESG and sustainability credentials</strong>.</p>
<p>As in topics we have already treated in the past, <strong>sustainability and energy saving in data center</strong> notably refers to the switch from air cooling systems of IT equipments and electronics to <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/7393/the-big-rise-of-immersion-liquid-cooling-in-data-center-market/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>liquid cooling solutions</strong></a>, taking all of the advantages provided by <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/8648/immersion-liquid-cooling-in-data-center-and-hpc/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">immersion cooling in data centers</a>. This represents in fact a shift gears for data centers, towards a more sustainable and green future for IT computing infrastructurea with a lower environmental impact. There are indeed several advantages offered by <strong>liquid cooling of data centers equipment</strong>, starting with the possibility to employ <strong>cooling fluids at higher temperatures</strong> thanks to the higher heat dissipation rate of liquid compared to air. Great <strong>energy savings</strong> are then also due to the elimination of fans and compressors in chillers, and furthermore allowing the implementation of <a href="https://en.tempco.it/solutions-en/industrial-coolers-electroradiators/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>free cooling</strong></a> systems.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Supermicro</strong>, a global leader in <strong>high performance, green computing server technology</strong> for application in <strong>data center</strong>, <strong>cloud computing</strong>, <strong>AI</strong>, <strong>5G</strong> and <strong>edge computing</strong>, deployed a proof-of-concept project showing the advantages offered by <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/7431/how-to-achieve-energy-saving-in-data-center-cooling/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>immersion liquid cooling in dielectric fluids</strong></a> of electronic equipments. <a href="https://www.supermicro.com/white_paper/white_paper_Immersion-Cooling.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Supermicro collaborated with 3M, Intel, Kaori and Samsung</strong></a> measuring not only the <strong>higher energy efficiency of liquid cooling systems</strong>, with lower energy consumption, but also the <strong>costs savings related to the software runtime license fee</strong> of EDA software (electronic design automation) employed in the <strong>semiconductor industry</strong>.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/7393/the-big-rise-of-immersion-liquid-cooling-in-data-center-market/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Immersion liquid cooling</strong></a>, a topic we have already treated several times in the past with the use of <a href="https://en.tempco.it/solutions-en/heat-exchangers/dimple-jacket/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>TCOIL dimple jacket exchangers</strong></a>, first of all increases the <strong>sustainability in data center management</strong>, improving energy efficiency of the cooling system. Indeed, using a liquid as cooling media instead of air allows a more close contact between the particles of the fluid and the object to be cooled, increasing the thermal transfer coefficient. It is therefore possible to employ cooling fluids at cooler temperatures, also leveraging on <a href="https://en.tempco.it/solutions-en/industrial-coolers-electroradiators/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>free cooling systems</strong></a> and obtaining an important energy saving cutting costs related to <strong>air conditioning and chillers</strong>.</p>
<p>In addition, the tested liquid cooling solution also led to a <strong>reduction of overall utility costs in high performance computing</strong> tasks required by software EDA, where the licensing costs often depends on the <strong>number of cores and clock speed required</strong> (clock speed indicates the number of on-off cycles (transitioning from 1 to 0) of a transistor in a second, measured in GHz). Higher clock speeds also mean higher rates of <strong>TDP (thermal design point)</strong>, which is the maximum amount of heat generated by a chip that has to dissipated to ensure correct functioning of the component.</p>

<p>The <strong>overall software licensing cost</strong> can therefore be lowered <strong>reducing the number of cores and increasing the clock speeds</strong>, maintaining the same computing performance level. But it involves an increased amount of heat that the cooling system has to dissipate, where traditional <strong>air-cooling systems start meeting their limits</strong>. While it can easily be managed by immersion liquid cooling systems, increasing at the same time energy efficiency with lower energy consumption.</p>
<p>The proof-of-concept system developed by Supermicro with 3M, Intel, Kaori and Samsung uses in fact immersion liquid cooling of different kind of Intel and Samsung electronic devices in a cooling tank with <a href="https://en.tempco.it/solutions-en/heat-exchangers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>plate heat exchangers</strong></a> filled with <strong>3M Fluorinert Electronic Liquid FC-40</strong>, a dielectric liquid that demonstrated excellent compatibility with the electronic devices employed.</p>
<p>Tests showed then an <strong>important reduction of power consumption</strong> obtained with immersion liquid cooling of electronics, even with high performance CPUs and in extreme<strong> environments without air conditioning</strong>. Allowing the reduction of the number of cores with increased clock speeds, thus showing that immersion liquid cooling can be a green and high efficient solution also enabling <strong>lower utility costs</strong>, suitable for increasing power computing capacities required by data centers fostering the development of new technologies in the electronic design field, AI and analytics.</p>
