										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We recently supplied an <strong>air/water</strong> <a href="https://en.tempco.it/solutions-en/heat-exchangers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>heat exchanger</strong></a> with a special ElectroFin treatment for a <strong>medical equipment production line</strong>, specifically for medical tubing.</p>
<p>This specific <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/10792/custom-thermoregulation-units-for-oems-in-the-food-pharma-sectors/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">application for the medical sector</a> requires a precise and controlled cooling of the air temperature within the <strong>medical tubing thermoforming line</strong>. Rapid and stable cooling allows indeed the final geometry of the tube to be set immediately after forming, ensuring <strong>repeatability and consistent quality</strong>.</p>
<p>The solution used is an air/water exchanger made of <strong>UNI6082 aluminum with a special ElectroFin treatment</strong>. It is ideal for medical environments thanks to the <strong>corrosion resistance and sanitization</strong> of the surfaces guaranteed by the special treatment. This involves a series of steps that include testing and inspection of incoming parts, cleaning and degreasing of production residues, and e-coating in a cathodic epoxy bath. All with complete process traceability.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The images of a recent <strong>replacement and revamping intervention</strong> that we carried out in <strong>Tempco</strong> for a system <strong>installed in a marine climate</strong> speak for themselves: in a marine environment, with exposure to aggressive agents, the <strong>correct protection of the <a href="https://en.tempco.it/solutions-en/industrial-coolers-electroradiators/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">radiator</a> fin pack</strong> is crucial to ensure the necessary duration and operational reliability of the cooling system.</p>
<p>The photos taken before the replacement intervention show very clearly the state of <strong>serious <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/5616/metals-and-fluids-avoiding-corrosion/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">corrosion</a> of the radiator thermal transfer pack fins</strong>.</p>

<p>We therefore proceeded to replace and revamp the system, installing thermal exchange batteries with a special <strong><a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/9880/radiators-for-higher-efficiency-in-petrochemical-plant-in-oman/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ELECTROFIN</a> treatment</strong>. The ElectroFin treatment is a <strong>special anti-corrosion protective coating</strong> that is applied by electrodeposition, which ensures the correct protection of the fin pack from the aggressive agents to which the systems and equipment are exposed in a <strong>saline/marine environment</strong>.</p>

<p>All systems are always supplied in full configuration and are <strong>delivered ready for installation</strong>. Speaking about <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/4349/biogas-condensate-separator-or-tank/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>biogas</strong></a>, of particular interest are therefore the <strong>latest applications in the <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/6250/tcoil-dimple-jacket-in-paper-mill-application/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">paper mill sector</a></strong>, with the aim of reducing polluting emissions. In fact, paper mills have a high potential for the <strong>production of biogas and biomethane</strong>, as the production cycle of a paper mill generates large amounts of waste water rich in biodegradable COD (chemical oxygen demand), which lends itself to being treated and <strong>valorised for the production of biogas</strong>.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="https://en.tempco.it/solutions-en/heat-exchangers/brazed-plate/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Brazed plate heat exchangers</strong></a> (BPHE) for high temperatures are a key asset in two main and emerging applications within the <strong>ecological transition</strong>, being it <strong>CO2 refrigeration</strong> and <strong><a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/6066/heat-echangers-fuell-cells-clean-energy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fuel cells</a> using hydrogen</strong> as a <a href="https://en.tempco.it/infographics/engineering-green/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">renewable power source</a>. Two renewable sources that are crucial for sustainability and to contrast the effects of climate change in power generation and <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/8556/emission-reduction-from-refrigerants-in-industrial-chillers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">industrial refrigeration</a>.</p>
<p>CO2 employed as a <strong>natural refrigerant gas</strong> (R-744) is an excellent alternative to traditional synthetic refrigerants (CFD and HCFC), offering a 0 value of <strong>Ozone depletion potential</strong> (ODP) and a <strong>GWP</strong> (Global warming potential) of about 1, far less than that of traditional refrigerants. CO2 has also a very <strong>high thermal transfer coeffient</strong>, much higher than synthetic refrigerants, is stable and non-toxic, but has to work at very high pressure levels, thus requiring higher standards for the design of <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/8317/sustainable-refrigeration-with-asymmetric-brazed-plate-exchangers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">refrigeration systems</a> and components. Otherwise, its <strong>excellent flow performances</strong> allow to significantly reduce the size of compressors and refrigeration equipments, making the overall system more compact.</p>
<p>Furthermore, CO2 is a natural working medium of easy access in the environment, and is also a <strong>by-product of many industrial processes</strong> and factories, so that refrigeration using CO2 represents an excellent solution for the recovery and <strong>recycling of exhaust gas</strong>.</p>

<p>Another very important application for <strong>high temperature brazed plate exchangers</strong> involves fuel cells, using hydrogen which is a optimal candidate for <strong>energy of the future as alternative to fossil fuels</strong>. Fuel cells are zero emission power generation systems that employ an electrochemical process to <strong>obtain electricity and heat from the chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen</strong>, generating water as by-product. Therefore a totally green and clean power generation solution.</p>
<p>Nowadays there are several and <strong>different fuel cells technologies</strong> deployed, and brazed plate exchangers are employed in a series of tasks such as <strong>pre-heating of air and fuel</strong>, <strong>cooling of the cell</strong> and <strong>humidity and vapour management</strong>, through <strong>energy recovery</strong> of the generated heat. All of these applications have in common high temperatures requirements, as well as <strong>high corrosion resistance</strong>.<br />
In the schemes below, there is a series of examples of brazed plate exchangers applications in different fuel cell related technologies, used in <strong>micro-grids</strong>, <strong>sustainable mobility</strong> and for <strong>hydrogen production</strong>.</p>

<p>Among them there are <strong>Solid oxide fuel cells</strong> (<strong>SOFC</strong>) employing exchangers for air pre-heating and heat recovery of thermal energy generated by the oxidation process of hydrogen. In <strong>Proton-exchange membrane fuel cells</strong> (<strong>PEMFC</strong>), high temperature brazed plate exchangers are used for heat recovery aimed for water heating. Brazed plate exchangers provide hydrogen pret-heating and exhaust gas heat recovery in<strong> trucks using fuel cells</strong>, making heavy-transportation sustainable. Finally, brazed plate exchangers are used for <strong>ammonia pre-heating in NH3 cracker systems</strong>, employed for <strong>hydrogen production</strong> from NH3 molecules.</p>

The kind of application can anyway require very <strong>special adjustments and engineering attentions</strong> that can turn a common plate heat exchanger into something very special. A typical example is the <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/7069/cooling-of-soda-solution-in-oil-gas-depuration-process/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">oil&amp;gas <strong>industry</strong></a><strong>,</strong> which entails a very much more accurate design of a plate heat exchanger, with a series of special engineering features:</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>How connections on <a href="https://en.tempco.it/solutions-en/heat-exchangers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>plate heat exchangers</strong></a> are made to <strong>avoid contact between the fluid and carbon steel</strong>? This is a question that I’m often asked for.</p>
<p>If the fluid employed within the exchanger presents no particular problems in getting in contact with carbon steel, the fluid entering the flange of the exchanger gets then in direct contact with the material. Thereafter, it enters the exchanger and here it gets in contact with the <strong>stainless steel of the plates</strong>. But very often, it is necessary to avoid the contact of the fluids with components and materials that are prone to <strong><a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/5122/metal-corrosion-in-thermal-machines-2/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">oxidation and corrosion</a></strong>. In this case, it is mandatory to avoid any possible contact of the fluid with carbon steel</p>
<p>Plate heat exchangers can have <strong>two main connection options</strong>, with <strong>flanged or threaded <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/4615/plate-heat-exchangers-connections/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">connections</a></strong>. Flanged connections make the trick quite easy, in fact it’s sufficient to <strong>coat the body in the nozzles area using elastomers</strong>, such as nitrile, ethylene-propylene or viton, or using <strong>stainless steel</strong> AISI 304 or AISI 316. The inner part of the body in the nozzle area is protected as well by this lining. The gasket of the first plate gets then in contact with the circular ring of this lining, so that the fluid flowing through the body enters between the first two plates,<strong> never getting in contact with carbon steel</strong>. The final plate is a blind plate, so it never gets in contact with carbon steel either, remaining always in contact only with the plates in stainless steel.</p>
<p>Speaking of it, fluids never flow between the first plate and the body, they always enter directly between the first two plates.</p>

<p>On plate heat exchangers with threaded connections, the <strong>nozzles</strong> &#8211; made in <strong>stainless steel or using plastic materials</strong> in case of <strong>aggressive fluids such as<a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/7359/immersion-cooling-at-the-marina-di-loano-seaport/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> sea water</a> or acids</strong> &#8211; have a sort of counterpart which gets in contact with the gasket, and is held back by the body. So that here as well the fluid entering the exchanger gets <strong>only in contact with stainless steel</strong> and the <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/?p=4000" target="_blank" rel="noopener">materials of gaskets</a>. Never getting in contact with carbon steel, paint or other materials that are prone to corrosion.</p>
<p>Finally, the problem doesn’t even exist in plate heat exchangers for <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/8361/temperature-regulation-for-flaking-and-lamination-in-food-and-pharma/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">food and beverage applications</a>, where hygienic requirements force to employ full stainless steel executions.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <strong><a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/8060/tcoil-dimple-jacket-exchangers-for-contact-cooling-of-batteries/">TCOIL plates</a></strong> we’ve supplied recently for an <strong><a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/8217/heat-exchangers-and-corrosion-of-materials-in-anodic-oxidation/">anodic oxidation plant</a></strong> are a further good example of the <strong>flexibility</strong> and the advantages offered by this special kind of <a href="https://en.tempco.it/solutions-en/heat-exchangers/dimple-jacket/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dimple jacket exchangers</a>.</p>
<p>In fact the order came from an important constructor of anodic oxidation plants which operates on the <strong>US market</strong> through a local facility. The customer is realizing a plant for a main <strong>aircrafts manufacturer</strong>. For the thermostatation of the<strong> treatment tanks and the galvanic baths</strong>, the constructor decided during the project of the plant to substitute classic <a href="https://www.tempco.it/blog/en/7735/coil-exchangers-for-geothermal-heat-pumps/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">coil exchangers</a> with TCOIL plates.</p>

<p>The final user has indeed the need to <strong>treat big parts and components</strong>, so that it was necessary to have the whole input section of the tanks available to insert the pieces. The solution using TCOIL plates offers the advantage to have a <strong>smaller and thinner thermal exchange system</strong> compared to bulky tube/coil exchangers.</p>
<p>We’ve realized 20 TCOIL plates of different sizes, taking further advantage of the <strong>great flexibility</strong> typically offered by dimple jacket exchangers to adapt the thermostatation systems to existing and yet designed tanks. The plates are fed with <strong>over heated water</strong> for the heating step, while <strong>refrigerated water</strong> is employed for the cooling cycle.</p>
<p>Construction material is <strong>AISI 316L with augmented thickness</strong>, in order to ensure resistance to the <strong>harsh working environment</strong> in which the dimple jacket immersion exchangers are aimed to be used, in presence of <strong>sulphuric acid</strong> within the electro-galvanic baths.</p>
