GE Research says the exchanger could find <strong>applications in the energy sector<\/strong>, enabling a more efficient and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.tempco.it\/infographics\/engineering-green\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cleaner power generation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Metal additive manufacturing is as well the focus of R&amp;D in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/en\/7976\/diathermic-oil-thermoregulation-for-devils-projects-turbofan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>aerospace sector<\/strong><\/a>, where <strong>metal 3D printed<\/strong> single piece heat exchangers are being developed for the <strong>NASA<\/strong> and the <strong>US Army<\/strong>, also enhanced thanks to <strong>topological optimization<\/strong>, using metal 3D printers by <strong>Fabrisonic<\/strong> and <strong>3D Systems<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8436\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Scambiatori-di-calore-additive-manufacturing-3D-Systems.jpg\" alt=\"Scambiatori di calore additive manufacturing 3D Systems\" width=\"741\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Scambiatori-di-calore-additive-manufacturing-3D-Systems.jpg 741w, https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Scambiatori-di-calore-additive-manufacturing-3D-Systems-300x148.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 741px) 100vw, 741px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>3D printing brings indeed a series of main advantages for the production of heat exchangers, allowing to manufacture <strong>lighter devices, more compact and performing<\/strong>, while increasing<strong> efficiency and reliability<\/strong>. First of all, additive manufacturing could revolutionize the production process of heat exchangers, allowing the manufacturing of the <strong>plates pack and the manifold in a single piece<\/strong>, requiring no more extra steps of forming, assembly, brazing or welding. Reducing not only the production cycle time but also increasing the lightness and the robustness of the overall structure.<\/p>\n<p>Using additive manufacturing is furthermore possible to create any imaginable kind of shape and geometry, opening a virtually unlimited design landscape for the <strong>creation of unique and customized shapes and internal geometries<\/strong>, also leveraging breakthrough techniques such as <strong>generative design<\/strong>. Also heading to the <strong>miniaturization of components and devices<\/strong>, aimed for narrow spaces applications which are very often required as we see in Tempco, and not just in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/en\/7256\/ferrari-intercooler-some-dirty-trick-cooling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">motorsport<\/a> and aerospace<\/strong> sectors mentioned in the article.<\/p>\n<p>The possibility to create in AM <strong>extremely thin thermal exchange walls<\/strong> finally drastically increases the amount of thermal transfer surface, boosting the efficiency of the thermal machines. In addition, AM can create heat exchangers using a <strong>wide range of materials<\/strong>, ranging from <strong>aluminium alloys<\/strong> to high conductivity <strong>copper and copper alloys<\/strong>, and all the way up to high-temperature alloys such as <strong>Inconel 718 <\/strong>and<strong> Inconel 625<\/strong>. Eventually allowing the manufacturing of <strong>multi-material heat exchangers<\/strong> as showcased by the heat exchanger developed by <a href=\"https:\/\/gen3d.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Gen3D<\/strong><\/a>, a software developer for AM applications, in collaboration with 3D printers manufacturer <strong>Aerosint<\/strong> using laser powder bed fusion technology.
