{"id":7976,"date":"2021-02-05T16:15:19","date_gmt":"2021-02-05T15:15:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/?p=7976"},"modified":"2021-02-05T16:15:19","modified_gmt":"2021-02-05T15:15:19","slug":"diathermic-oil-thermoregulation-for-devils-projects-turbofan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/en\/7976\/diathermic-oil-thermoregulation-for-devils-projects-turbofan\/","title":{"rendered":"Diathermic oil thermoregulation for DEVILS project\u2019s Turbofan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Commissioning completed last January of a very special <a href=\"https:\/\/en.tempco.it\/solutions-en\/thermo-regulating-units\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>thermoregulating unit<\/strong><\/a>, for implementation by the Italian <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abete.net\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Abete<\/strong><\/a> company within an innovative concept of a <strong>variable flow lubricating oil pump<\/strong> for the <a href=\"https:\/\/cordis.europa.eu\/project\/id\/737972\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>DEVILS Project<\/strong><\/a>, supported by EU Horizon2020 funds.<\/p>\n<p>This is a very important project aimed to develop a new oil lubrication and heat management system in a <strong>VHBE<\/strong> (<em>Very High Bypass Engine<\/em>) <strong>Turbofan<\/strong>, realized by <strong>Rolls Royce<\/strong> for future aircraft applications offering high efficiency levels and reduced fuel consumption.<br \/>\nA Turbofan, or fanjet, is a special kind of <strong>air breathing jet engine<\/strong> that combines a gas turbine engine and a ducted fan employed in aircraft propulsion, which uses two separated air flows, a cold one and a hot one. Indeed, while in a turbojet all the air taken in passes through the combustion chamber of a turbine, in a turbofan some of the air bypasses it. The ratio of the mass-flow of air that bypasses the engine core divided by the mass-flow of air passing through it is called <strong>bypass ratio<\/strong>. This kind of engine presents indeed some challenging tasks to the oil lubrication and heat management systems, because the latest trends of developing aircraft engines that consumes less fuel involve <strong>higher speeds, loads and temperatures<\/strong>, due to the integration of high-power gearboxes (allowing high bypass ratio) and high-power starter-generators.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7972\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Tempco-centralina-progetto-DEVILS.jpg\" alt=\"Tempco centralina progetto DEVILS\" width=\"577\" height=\"901\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Tempco-centralina-progetto-DEVILS.jpg 577w, https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Tempco-centralina-progetto-DEVILS-192x300.jpg 192w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 577px) 100vw, 577px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/en\/3663\/high-temperature-diathermic-oil-thermoregulation-units\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">diathermic oil thermoregulating unit<\/a> we engineered in Tempco is integrated in the <strong>production line and stress testing<\/strong> of the special variable flow lubricating oil pump by Abete. This is a unit designed to work with diathermic oil at <strong>high temperatures, up to 300\u00b0 C<\/strong>, with <strong>PID regulation<\/strong> of the temperature control and management through static relais. Likewise all of the similar applications we supply in this field, the unit is <strong>equipped with a magnetic drive pump<\/strong> and special components and fittings suitable for continuous operations at such challenging conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The cooling section has a double purpose:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Temperature retention for thermal drift compensation<\/li>\n<li>Final cooling at the end of the operations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The unit is equipped with a <strong>special <a href=\"https:\/\/en.tempco.it\/solutions-en\/heat-exchangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">heat exchanger<\/a><\/strong> able to withstand high thermal shocks.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7968\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Tempco-centralina-termoregolazione-DEVILS.jpg\" alt=\"Tempco centralina termoregolazione DEVILS\" width=\"600\" height=\"724\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Tempco-centralina-termoregolazione-DEVILS.jpg 711w, https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Tempco-centralina-termoregolazione-DEVILS-249x300.jpg 249w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Beyond Abete and Rolls Royce as end user, the DEVILS Project also sees the contribution of other important companies from the Campania Region: the leading <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurosoftsrl.eu\/index.php?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Euro.Soft<\/strong><\/a>, which is to deploy all of the avionic controls, and <strong>Protom<\/strong>, in collaboration with the Engines Institute of the <strong>CNR of Naples<\/strong> and the Industrial engineering department of the <strong>Federico II University<\/strong>, as well as the Israeli company <strong>TAT<\/strong>.
