{"id":7842,"date":"2020-11-06T14:53:24","date_gmt":"2020-11-06T13:53:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/?p=7842"},"modified":"2020-11-06T14:54:07","modified_gmt":"2020-11-06T13:54:07","slug":"advantages-and-characteristics-of-monofluid-thermoregulation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/en\/7842\/advantages-and-characteristics-of-monofluid-thermoregulation\/","title":{"rendered":"Advantages and characteristics of monofluid thermoregulation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Monofluid <a href=\"https:\/\/en.tempco.it\/solutions-en\/thermo-regulating-units\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thermoregulation<\/a><\/strong> is a solution that offers important benefits, especially in application within <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/en\/7184\/thermoregulating-unit-in-pharma-sector\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>pharma and chemical industry<\/strong><\/a>. These industries need to control temperatures in a bunch of production equipments, such as <strong>reactors<\/strong>, <strong>pressure filters<\/strong>, <strong>blenders<\/strong> and <strong>mixers<\/strong>. All of these machines require to maintain some rising or descending temperature ramps, involving a thermal range for the processed products that vary from low to high temperatures and viceversa.<\/p>\n<p>An example is a reactor employed for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/en\/7608\/plate-heat-exchangers-revamping-for-covid-19-treatment-api-production\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">production of an active pharmaceutical ingredient<\/a>. Starting from ambient temperature, the product has to be heated, and then maintained at a certain temperature. Then it has to be cooled, and then maybe again heated and so on.<\/p>\n<p>Usually <strong>jacketed reactors<\/strong> are employed, with half-pipe coil or with thermal transfer jackets. Based on the temperature level required for the product inside the reactor, a hot or cold fluid is inserted within the jacket.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, but still employed very much today, to achieve <strong>heating a hot fluid was inserted inside the jacket<\/strong>, <strong>vapor of diathermic oil<\/strong> for example. When the process needed a cooling phase, then vapor and condensate got completely discharged, and the jacket was then loaded with <strong>refrigerated water or glycol water<\/strong>. The ensemble of these <strong>discharging and loading operations<\/strong> clearly take some time, and thus can slow down the productivity. In addition, this kind of solution only offers a relatively precise control of temperature levels.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Mf48fyz851o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Hence, <strong>monofluid technology<\/strong> developed along the years. This technology employs in fact the same fluid as utilities &#8211; vapor, diathermic oil, hot water, refrigerated water, glycol water -, but they all flow within an array of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.tempco.it\/solutions-en\/heat-exchangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">heat exchangers<\/a><\/strong>. A <strong>unique fluid then flows inside the exchangers<\/strong>, which is able to withstand the temperature range required by the overall thermoregulation process.<\/p>\n<p>This fluid flows then within the reactor\u2019s jacket. There are clear advantages: <strong>downtimes are eliminated<\/strong>, related to discharge and loading operations of the different fluids. But most of all, the <strong>risk of mixing of the fluids is avoided<\/strong>. Which means there is no more risk of having antifreeze water flowing inside the boiler, or condensate ending up in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.tempco.it\/solutions-en\/chillers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>chiller<\/strong><\/a>, diluting the glycol water increasing the freezing risk.<\/p>\n<p>Advantages are then significant, and clearly there are on the other hand some disadvantages. There is a slight loss in thermal exchange, indeed, due to the fact that the <strong>temperatures of utilities are a little bit higher and lower than the temperature of the fluid<\/strong> that flows within the jacket. But from an operative point of view, benefits are huge making it a largely implemented solution.
