In order to maintain the mechanical and chemical properties of the diathermic oil, some measures can be adopted to avoid the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/en\/5892\/diathermic-oil-life-span-in-thermoregulating-units\/\">oxidation of the fluid<\/a> in contact with air in the tank. It can be achieved with a <strong>proper piping connection<\/strong> and leaving a <strong>minimum surface in contact with air<\/strong>, by using a vent. The air remaining inside the vessel generates a layer that gives up a limited oxygen quantity to the oil, becoming inactive.<\/p>\n<p>This is a simple and cost-effective solution compared to the cooling of the expansion tank, and by far less complicated than pressurizing the vessel with nitrogen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Expansion tank capacity evaluation<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nThe capacity of expansion tank must be calculated based on two main factors:<br \/>\n&#8211; The high expansion coefficient of the thermal fluid<br \/>\n&#8211; The overall capacity of the system<\/p>\n<p>Considering a temperature of 300\u00b0 C, the capacity of the expansion tank must be approximately <strong>30-50% of the overall volume of the cold transfer fluid<\/strong> employed to be heated.
