{"id":5892,"date":"2017-03-27T15:50:42","date_gmt":"2017-03-27T13:50:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/en\/?p=5892"},"modified":"2017-03-23T16:11:07","modified_gmt":"2017-03-23T15:11:07","slug":"diathermic-oil-life-span-in-thermoregulating-units","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/en\/5892\/diathermic-oil-life-span-in-thermoregulating-units\/","title":{"rendered":"Diathermic oil life span in thermoregulating units"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Diathermic oil<\/strong> is a heat transfer fluid highly employed in temperature regulation systems, due to its high boiling temperature at atmospheric pressure conditions, between 400\u00b0C and 500\u00b0C, and to its low freezing point.<\/p>\n<p>These properties give diathermic oil an <strong>excellent thermal stability<\/strong>, making it a perfect substitute of water and vapor in <strong>heat transfer systems<\/strong> and<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/en.tempco.it\/solutions-en\/thermo-regulating-units\/\" target=\"_blank\">thermoregulation<\/a><\/strong>, for applications involving temperatures in a wide range, between <strong>-115\u00b0C and up to 400\u00b0C<\/strong>, mostly without pressurized equipments. I would like to suggest the products of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therminol.com\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Therminol<\/strong><\/a> by <strong>Eastman<\/strong>, in the selection of a diathermic oil, due to the excellent performances offered and also supplying other kinds of thermal transfer fluids allowing to manage wide temperature variations with very low viscosity variations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Hot-Oil-olio-diatermico.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5889\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Hot-Oil-olio-diatermico-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"centraline olio diatermnico\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Hot-Oil-olio-diatermico-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Hot-Oil-olio-diatermico-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tempco.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Hot-Oil-olio-diatermico.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>working life span of a good diathermic oil<\/strong> in a thermoregulating unit is usually about <strong>3-4 years<\/strong>, provided that design, engineering and building of the plant are made taking care of a series of characteristics:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Right equipments sizing<br \/>\n&#8211; Proper materials selection<br \/>\n&#8211; Correct filling and start-up process<br \/>\n&#8211; Planned maintenance and periodical service during plant working life<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nDepending on the kind of diathermic oil employed, specific physical-chemical and thermal properties must be carefully considered, in order to proceed to the right sizing of the plant according to its <strong>expected thermal duty<\/strong>. The choice of materials is then crucial, since they must be suitable for use with diathermic oil, not being damaged by it but also not damaging the oil itself.<\/p>\n<p>A correct engineering and construction process is essential to guarantee a long working life of a diathermic oil, delaying the need for substitution. Ditahermic oil is indeed exposed to <strong>aging and degradation<\/strong>, due to contamination and <strong>oxidation<\/strong>, and also to <strong>cracking<\/strong> at excessive temperatures, loosing its heat carrier properties and lowering the overall efficiency of the plant.
